If there is an unfamiliar hometown at somewhere far away, how would this place look like? If the place we growing up is an unfamiliar land, how would our nostalgia look like? The purpose of this group exhibition is not to display the “professional” artworks, but to evoke the possibility to look back the “hometown”, which located in the gray area of national identities and cultural mixing. Three Japanese background art workers: curator Nobuo Takamori, artist Kinoshita Akinori and Takumi Imafuku, have been introduced to this unique project. However, they all growing up in Taiwan Island and live here for most of their life. For artist Lee Yi Pei (she is also a curator), her Indigenous background like a phantom for her: unclear and disappearing when you mentioned. However, this phantom begins to lead her back to the “hometown”, where once upon a time, the motherland of her ancestral spirits. In the other hand, artist Lim Ai Ting decided to leave Malay Peninsula, a familiar and unfamiliar hometown, for begins her new life in Taiwan. These artists are unfamiliar names for Taiwanese art circle: For some artists, their cultural backgrounds are too far away from the major cultural/ethnical groups in Taiwan. They are also far away from “international tendencies/narratives” (which Taiwanese art circle fascinated with). Even some artists didn’t have enough time and space to deal with their artistic career, because they need to fight with visas and residency problem. Honestly welcome to visit our nostalgia as a guest! Come for listen our stories, appreciate our artworks and understand our unfamiliar hometown.
